Booking Procedure: All cases are booked through the endoscopy booking clerk.
General Booking Form (physicians must have endoscopy privileges at BRHC).
Requisition Form:
Booked by Physician according to ASAP < 2 weeks, Soon < 6 weeks, Urgent <
4 months, Elective.
Add on Endo’s are done as EI Urgent; bump others as necessary, E2 done today. Sclerotherapy –
OR staff cover.
WELCOME TO THE GI UNIT
The GI Unit is located on the main floor of the Clinical Services Building in the Health
Centre. If you are coming to the GI Unit you may be having one of the procedures listed below.
- Gastroscopy or Esophagogastroscopy
- Colonoscopy
- ERCP
- Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
- Insertion of a Bravo Ph probe
- Placement of Feeding Tubes
- Bronchoscopy
Along with these procedures there are other interventions that may be performed. Before your
test, you may or may not receive intravenous sedation. You will not receive a general anaesthetic
in this department.
The Process
1. Your doctor will send the request for your test to the GI booking office (the priority
will be set by your doctor).
2. The GI Unit will send you a letter to assure you that we have received your booking. No
date/time for your procedure will be given at that time.
3. You will receive another letter or phone call once the date and time for your procedure
has been arranged.
** Prior to the procedure, your doctor and the GI Unit must know if you are on blood
thinners, ASA, Warfarin or Plavix!
Cancellations
* Your test will be cancelled if you do not follow the instructions given to you to prepare
yourself for the test.
* Your test will also be cancelled if you do not have a ride home and a responsible adult to
stay with you.
Please note:
Procedures may be postponed to another day if your doctor is called away to an emergency.
After the procedure
For test results and follow up:
- You may be asked to make an appointment at the testing doctors clinic or
- You may be asked to make an appointment at your family doctor.
