Admission Information
During Your Pregnancy
You may have been hospitalized because of a high-risk pregnancy or illness. It is very important for you to rest and take care of yourself. Please let your friends and family
know that:
- A rest period occurs between 12:00pm - 2:00pm
- General visiting is from 2:00pm – 8:00pm
Visiting during Labor
The time during Labor and Birth is very exciting, as your baby is soon to arrive.
Everyone wants to know the moment your baby is born – however this is an important time for you, your significant other, and of course - your new baby.
Please let your family and friends know that there is no general visiting during your labor.
Please keep the following in mind:
- A maximum of two support people can be in your room at one time.
- Extra visitors/support people are required to wait in the atrium of the hospital (Main Floor area).
- Immediately following the birth, there are important things that take place such as:
- bonding with your new baby
- feeding your new baby
- enjoying the special moment
- In the first 2 hours following birth, immediate family may visit for a brief period.
- Your nurse may ask your visitors to leave at any time, depending on the condition of you or your baby
- All children must have a responsible adult with them at all times. Please - no children past 8:00pm - 8:00am.
Following Birth (after the first 2 hours)
After birth, it is very important for you and your baby to get enough rest. It is exciting to introduce your new baby, but remember, you need to take care of yourself. There is a balance between rest and visiting. Please keep the following in mind:
- One support person (eg husband or significant other) may visit anytime.
- One support person may stay overnight, in your room to help you with baby care. In order to help, it is important for this person to be rested.
- This person can help with baby care such as changing diapers, rocking/soothing during fussy times, assisting with feedings.
- He/she can also assist with your care, such as helping you to the bathroom if necessary and limiting visitors if you are feeling tired.
- A rest period occurs between 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
- General visiting is from 2:00pm – 8:00pm
For the health of you and your new baby, the following visitors are asked not to visit.
Visitors who have:
- been in contact with a communicable disease such as chicken pox or measles
- sore throats
- cold sores
- colds
The Maternity Unit is locked from 11:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. There is a doorbell for you to ring, if you want to enter the Maternity Unit during these hours. A nurse will come to the door and let you in. If you must leave the unit between these hours, a nurse must let you out.
During these hours, we ask your assistance in limiting the number of times you leave and enter the unit. If you have any questions, please ask your nurse. She will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
