Bill of Rights
Each resident has the right to be treated with respect, dignity, and courtesy at all
times.
Every Resident has the right to respect and dignity:

To be as independent as possible.

To a home like, comfortable, caring, safe, clean environment.

To shelter, food, clothing and to be cared for in a manner consistent with their
needs.

To have equal access to care (physical, social, emotional)/staff time.

To the care he/she requires according to the Resident care plan.

To make choices with activities of daily living.
-
To expect staff to advocate for all Residents.
-
To have another person such as a family member of significant other as an advocate
if he/she is unable to exercise his/her rights due to illness or impairment.

To be free from all forms of abuse.

To die with peace and comfort with family or others present.
Every Resident has the right to privacy:

To ensure all medical, financial records and personal information be kept
confidential.

To send and receive correspondence without interference.
-
To communicate with and have visits to and from family, friends and others.

To meet and communicate with their legal representative as often as
necessary.

To choose private time.
-
To provide privacy in treatment and in caring for his/her personal needs.
Every Resident has the right to information and freedom of expression:

To exercise their choice of religion, culture and language.

To personalize room in keeping with safety standards.

To be fully informed of medical treatments, including medication, and to choose or
refuse same and to be informed of the consequences thereof.

To have staff identify themselves, the role they serve and the procedure to be
performed.

To be informed of the mechanisms to deal with concerns/complaints.
Responsibilities of the Resident:

To consider the rights of others-including other Residents, staff and
volunteers.
Every individual has the right to be free from repercussions or discrimination as a
result of exercising any of the above rights.
