Westman Laboratory (WL), incorporated in 1974, is a high volume provincial referral laboratory located in Brandon, Manitoba and operated by Diagnostic Services of Manitoba (DSM).

As part of DSM’s provincial diagnostic network, Westman Laboratory is a point of access for facility in-patients to a comprehensive range of laboratory services, including Biochemistry and Genetics, Hematopathology, Immunology, Microbiology, Transfusion Medicine, Surgical Pathology, Autopsy and Cytology, for the purpose of diagnosis, pre and post operative testing and treatment monitoring. Emergency and in-patient services are offered 24 hours/day.

Located within the Brandon Regional Health Centre campus, DSM’s Westman Laboratory is also a referral center serving medical clinics, nursing homes and other health service centres within the Brandon Regional Health Authority as well as for 117 rural facilities across Manitoba.

As a teaching centre, educational services are provided for medical and clinical students and residents as well as for laboratory staff. Students from the Red River College Medical Laboratory Technology program receive a portion of their practical training at DSM’s SBGH-sited laboratory facilities. Medical and scientific research is also conducted at the site.

The lab facility is currently under redevelopment to provide new and renovated space, which will better equip the lab to continue to deliver state-of-the-art services now and into the future.

DSM is the not-for-profit corporation responsible for all of Manitoba’s public laboratory and rural diagnostic imaging services. As an important part of DSM’s provincial network, Westman Lab is one of 77 facilities working collaboratively to provide high-quality, state-of-the art services to Manitoba’s diagnostic customers.
