Program Manager - Marie Andrew
The Centre for Adult Psychiatry (CAP) is a 25-bed facility designated under the Mental Health
Act of Manitoba.
The Centre delivers acute, comprehensive services to adults between the ages of 18-64, who are
experiencing a psychiatric illness (DSM IV diagnosis) and/or severe psychosocial crisis.
|
CAP primarily services the Regional Health Authorities
of Brandon and Assiniboine.
|
|
The Centre functions under the jurisdiction of the Brandon Regional Health Authority and is
located at the Brandon Regional Health Centre (adjacent to the Assiniboine Centre on Russell
Street).
|
Additional notes:
- Treating psychiatrists at CAP are generally assigned on a rotating basis. The treating
psychiatrist may not necessarily be the same psychiatrist who admits the patient. If a patient is
currently treated by a private psychiatrist in the community, the private psychiatrist may choose
to transfer in-patient care to another psychiatrist.
- Non-urgent admissions can be pre-arranged. Pre-admission tours of the Centre can be provided on
request.
- Length of stay will vary with each individual but the average stay is approximately 16 days.
- We encourage on-going participation/input by family, family physicians, and appropriate
community agencies while a person is a patient at CAP.
