The Program works closely with family Doctors and other health care providers to help people understand and resolve the distress they are experiencing and to find ways to change these circumstances. The person may be counselled; taught skills to problem solve and cope better or receive medications to assist with symptom management.
It is strongly recommended that a person talk to their family Doctor in addition to this service as some mental and emotional health problems can be caused or strongly influenced by physical health problems. Your Doctor will need to evaluate these possibilities and be aware if you are seeing someone for counselling or other health services.
Who is eligible for assessment and counseling? Anyone 18 years and older who resides within the Brandon RHA and is experiencing mental or emotional health related problems such as depression, anxiety, stress and coping, and adjustment difficulties. Initial contact with our program should be made by telephone to talk to one of the Intake Staff. The Intake Staff will help to get a better understanding of the problem issues and determine where help can best be provided.
Referrals to Community Mental Health Services can be provided by any source (by yourself, family, friend or doctor) however; they must be made with the knowledge and consent of the person being referred. Referrals are taken by writing, telephone, and walk-in for urgent situations.
