Families First

Families First is a program offering information and support to parents facing the many challenges of caring for an infant or young child. Families First Home Visitors work with the Public Health Nurse (PHN) to provide services to families prenatally until school entry.

Families First begins with a visit from a PHN and a Home Visitor. If the qualifying family chooses to take part in the Families First program, the Home Visitor is someone who can:

1. Develop a trusting relationship
2. Offer support, listen and encourage
3. Provide information and assist families in accessing community services, programs and activities
4. Assist families/parents in learning new ways to play with their children
5. Assist families in developing their problem-solving, coping and parenting skills
6. Promote healthy lifestyle choices

Home Visitors use a curriculum that supports child development and promotes positive parent-child relationships.
