Public Health offers both evening (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and weekend (Friday evening and Saturday) classes regularly throughout the year.
Topics covered in class are Healthy Pregnancies, Labour and Delivery, Comfort Measures including breathing techniques, Pain Control, Postpartum care and Breastfeeding. All prenatal classes include a Hospital tour at Brandon Regional Health Centre.
These classes are designed to meet the needs of first time parents.
PLEASE NOTE: The Brandon RHA Prenatal Program serves those living in Brandon and the RM’s of Cornwallis, Whitehead and Elton. If you live in the Assiniboine Regional Health Authority please call your local public health nurse for assistance with prenatal classes in your area. If you live outside of Brandon RHA but are delivering at Brandon Regional Health Center call 204) 578-4257 to book your own hospital tour.
“Labour and Birth Refresher” - A brief review of labour and birth including a hospital tour for those who have already had a baby but would like a refresher. Held at the Brandon Regional Health Center (BRHC) - Single Room Maternity Care Floor the second Monday of every month. Call 578-4250 to register.
“Baby Basics” - A come and go evening offered four times per year with content on current information about caring for your baby. Includes information on cord care, car seat safety, home and crib safety, hygiene, diapering, SIDS, Child Health Clinics and Public Health Services. Call 578-2544 for dates and times.
“Healthy Beginnings” - Sessions for pregnant women and moms with babies up to one year of age. Sessions include cooking and information about nutrition, health and parenting. Free milk coupons and bus tickets are available. Childminding is provided. For more information call 578-2545.
Afternoon Prenatal - a program for pregnant single women and their support persons. Eight sessions held on Thursday afternoons. These classes are relaxed and informal and a nutritious snack is provided.
