Board Nomination Information
The Brandon RHA is responsible for the delivery of a full range of health care services in the
Brandon Region including the City of Brandon, RMs of Cornwallis, Elton & Whitehead. A call for
nominations is held annually for individuals interested in serving on the RHA’s Board of
Directors.
Appointments are made by the Minister of Health.
Qualifications for Nomination:
The nominees must:
• be 18 years of age as of the date of the appointment;
• have a strong commitment to improving the health system, supporting their RHA and to
improve the health of Manitobans;
• have strong communication skills;
• be able to attend board meetings on a regular basis; and
• be able to comply with regional conflict of interest guidelines.
Other considerations for board appointments include financial or legal skills; experience in
leadership, business or human resources; or familiarity with strategic planning and policy
development.
Any resident of the Brandon Region may nominate a person(s), including themselves for the
Board of the Brandon RHA. To obtain a nomination form or for more information, please call

Call for Nominations – General Information
The Call for Nominations is advertised annually. Information frequently requested
by people considering submission of a nomination form for the Brandon Regional Health Authority
Board of Directors include:
The time commitment for RHA Board members includes, but is not limited to, attendance at:

Monthly Board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month in the Council Chamber,
Brandon City Hall, with the exception of July and August when a Board meeting is not generally
held. These meetings are open to the public and are televised over WCG – TV Access Channel.

Board meetings normally begin at 7:00 p.m. and end with the conclusion of business, anywhere
between 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

The Committee of the Whole meets quarterly.

Committee meetings are held as required. There are two Standing Committees – Finance/Audit
Committee and Board Executive Committee. The Finance Committee meets the second Tuesday of the
month at 4:15 p.m. The Executive Committee meets bi-monthly on the fourth Tuesday of the month at
5:00 p.m., or as required to deal with urgent business that may arise from time to
time.

Annual General Meeting, once per year in the Fall.

Board Workshops, generally twice annually.

Provincial Health Conference & Exhibition held annually in October.

National Health Conference & Exhibition held annually. (In accordance with Brandon RHA
policy, the Board Chair and up to three Board members attend this event each year.)
An RHA orientation is provided to newly appointed Board members and existing Board members
wishing a refresher. The date is established in consultation with the Board The Provincial
orientation is held in September of each year over the course of a Friday evening and full day on
Saturday.
Board members are provided with ongoing educational opportunities through the education session
at the quarterly Committee of the Whole meetings and through attendance at various workshops and
seminars.
RHA Board members are paid an annual stipend of $4,000.00 per annum, with the exception of the
Board Chair who is paid a stipend of $9,000.00 per annum. Stipends are paid bi-weekly. Board
members are reimbursed for reasonable out-of-pocket expenses associated with the work of the Board.
Board members are reimbursed their mileage at the Provincial rate for out-of-Region
travel.
Communication to the Board is done primarily by e-mail, with the exception of monthly Board
packages, which are delivered.
